F-Secure Online Backup
• Safe transfer and storage
• Unlimited Storage
• Easy to use
• Lackluster features
• Only supports one computer
• Doesn't backup external hard drives
• Only one subscription option
While F-Secure Online Backup is an solid, safe, and easy to use program, it doesn't compete with the features, subscription options, and overall support of other online backup services.
F-Secure is a well known for it's award winning internet security program, but can they mimic that success with F-Secure Online Backup?
The setup won't cause you any stress. You simply download the install file and open it. Once opened, it will automatically install and launch itself. Before you can perform your first backup, you're going to need to create an account and buy a subscription key which runs for $49.99/year for unlimited backup on one computer. After you're signed up, you just need to adjust a few settings.
After you're all set up and ready to go, you will be asked to perform your first backup. You can choose to have the program backup all of your documents of certain categories like pictures, videos, music, and more. There is also the option of manually backing up specific drives, folders, or files.
F-Secure is constantly running in the background and will check for any changes made to your files while connected to the internet. If a file that is already backed up is altered, F-Secure automatically detects the change and will back up the new version of the document.
Also, files deleted from your computer will still be backed up for 15 to 45 days depending on your settings. Unfortunately, F-Secure does not have support for backing up external hard drives or USB drives.
Restoring files is very straight-forward. Simply click restore and choose what you want to restore. You can restore everything or restore specific files. After choosing what you files you want, you will need to choose where you want to send them. By default, it will create a folder on your desktop containing all of the files you chose to restore.
F-Secure creates secure copies of your files and safely transfers and stores them online. You can also access your files from the web if need be by using their secure, 256-bit encrypted web portal. The files you back up can be downloaded to any computer from the web portal, so if you're computer is lost or stolen, you will always have those important files stored safely.
F-Secure isn't exactly full of features. It gives you access to your documents both through the program and through your internet browser. The web portal allows you to download and share your backed up files, which can come in handy if you are away from your computer or need to get that file to somebody.
There are multiple ways to share a file. You can share a file through a simple email, or you have the option of sharing a file to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Ease of use
F-Secure's interface is attractive, simple, organized, and will not confuse even the most novice computer user. It's main interface gives minimal options and it's very hard to mistakenly click something.
Backup is as easy as choosing the files or categories you want and then the program does the rest. F-Secure is always running in the background, ready to backup any files you change or create.
Using the web portal is also quite easy. Just log in, check off the files you want to download or share, and click the option you desire.
